Just because I know nobody reads this crap...
My toenail hung on nicely until this past Monday. I pulled my right foot across it while getting out of bed, and it's now about 95% off. It stopped reeking, though, which is nice.
Everybody told me that once it fell off, I'd have to cover the exposed toe with something. I thought about it, and realized: why not just cover it with the nail? It fits perfectly (duh). So now, the nail is largely being held down with a Band Aid.
Yeah, I know. You all were waiting with bated breath to hear about that.
I'm still on the up-side of busy, which is actually kinda nice. I can't stand having nothing to do, even if being busy means that the days go by more quickly. Those used to seeing me around AIM and whatnot have probably noticed my total absence of late.
I ended up not playing in the local tournament I mentioned before. When I hadn't found a team, I volunteered to help run food concession, which actually ended up to be a pretty good time. The second day of the tournament was windy as hell, and I hate playing when it's windy as hell. Plus, I got to see nearly everybody come through the line to get food. (Including one member of my college team that I hadn't seen in years. Unfortunately, he came through during a busy period, and I didn't really get to say much to him.)
The one nice thing: several people commented that they were surprised that I wasn't playing, which, in many ways, was a compliment. In actuality, I could have played - several teams ended up needing players at the last minute. But, after committing to work, I felt better going with that.
Anyway, like I didn't need more Ultimate, I somehow found myself on another league team. Apart from the regular Ultimate and Goaltimate leagues in the Spring, there's also a "competitive" league that's supposed to be a more "structured" game. The trick: there's no draft - captains have to sign players up.
Last year, I wasn't able to find a team who would take me. And, after waiting all season and not getting picked, I assumed I wouldn't play this year either. As of ten days ago, I still didn't have a team.
Early last week, the commissioner of the league sent out an email to anybody rated 6 or higher that didn't have a team, and asked if they were still interested in playing. It turned out that there was quite a number of quality players who didn't have a team. And it was largely because there were only four captains who signed up to put a team together.
In the email, the commish asked if anyone would be willing to captain a team. In my response, I told him that if he didn't have any volunteers on the day of the first game (last Wednesday), I would be willing take the helm.
Tuesday night, after spending most of the day away from my computer, I log into my email and find thirty messages in my "Ultimate" mailbox. (Keep in mind that I usually get one or two a day.) Two emails in is one from the commish telling me that I'm captaining the team, and he's going to have people start emailing me to join my team. The next twenty-eight are messages from people looking for a team, many of them having sent two or three emails because they hadn't heard from me yet.
So, yeah, in one year, I went from not being on a team to captaining one. It's gotten a few chuckles thus far.
Between work and Ultimate, music has kinda taken a back seat. (As have the Cartoons, but I'm not so worried about that since I think I'm the only one who's checked them out.) And we're getting the house painted this weekend, which eliminates any chance of it in the next few days. But I'm trying to schedule in some time late next week to record some more.
The main reason: I think I'm finally going to head up to Boston to visit everyone. I haven't seen most of the people I know up there since the Hartford days (now five years ago). Plus, there's a chance that my friend's band may call it quits this summer, and I'd love to see them perform again before that happens. (I last saw them perform here in 2001.)
I think I may swing up there the first weekend of May. They're playing a show on May 1st (coincidentally, five years to the day of my last show with their previous incarnation - also a Saturday). And there's a chance I may play a solo show for the first time in... um... ever... while I'm up there.
But that's still kinda iffy, granted that me playing a billed solo show has heretofore been a Sign of the Apocalypse.
